The Grande Quests

Join us for a grande adventure!
Set sail on a journey of clues, challenges, and hidden treasures throughout the fairegrounds. Gather your crew and see if ye can complete the quest!

The Edson Renaissance Faire extends our heartfelt thanks to Scott Campbell for his creativity, imagination, and dedication in developing this year's interactive quests. From the initial concept to the design and creation of both adventures, Scott's vision has helped bring an extra layer of magic, mystery, and excitement to our Faire.

The Curse of Captain Brackish

When Captain Brikkard the Brackish still lived, he was master and commander of a pirate vessel he called the Crimson Cardinal, and he was a cruel and vicious taskmaster. When the crew of the Crimson Cardinal finally turned on him in mutiny, Brackish swore he would hunt down every crewman, that their faces were burnt into his vengeful memory. Fearful that he'd make good on that claim, the frightened crew blinded the villainous pirate and made him walk the plank, plunging into the cold, watery depths. Ever since, Captain Brackish's eyeless ghost has searched for the mutinous crew of the cardinal, but without his sight, he often relies on possessing unsuspecting heralds to deliver his blistering curse to every pirate they see. 'If tricorn ye wear, then black spot beware' Brackish cried, and those under his compulsion would deliver the dreaded Black Spot Curse!

''Tis better to drown in the deep sea below, then to swing from a rope, rotten food for the crow,

'Tis better to live with a gut full O'rum, while ye wait for the day when the Reaper will come,

'Tis better to flee, with yer gold in yer hand, and hide from your fate far away on dry land'

'Tis proper to curse ye who'd plunder yer gold, while ye wait for the day that the Black Spot foretold.

To be haunted by ghosts, til ye draw yer last breath, to be dogged day and night by the spectre of Death.

So take what ye will, and give nothing back, but beware of the curse of the spot that is black!'

Last year, Captain Brikkard the Brackish possessed the Wandering Wizard storyteller, Morphestus, and used the poor bard to curse a number of the pirate folk at the faire. This year the vindictive ghost pirate has tried to extend his curse throughout the realms by cursing the faire's treasure! Help us stop this nefarious plan by unraveling the puzzles and riddles the Pirate Captain has left behind, and discovering how to dispel this pirate curse. He left behind a map, as pirate captain's often do, and a story he wrote about his favourite messenger birds. There is said to be a scholar at the faire that has studied the story, a Spymaster at the faire still loyal to Captain Brackish, who might have crucial insights, and a Magician that might know a thing or two about breaking the curses. A mighty Raven might have overheard important clues, or she might let you choose your own fate!

Use the map, the story, and whatever clues you might gather from the market tents to solve this mystery and help ensure the powerful curse is broken and the faire's treasure is safe from vengeful spells.
